“What Our Community Says”
Testimonials
After a close bereavement in my family (I lost my daughter aged 7 to Cancer) I was asked by a close friend to join Round Table. After being a member for 7 years I joined Nassjoe Lions Club in Sweden. When I moved to Cork a customer told me about the Christmas Food Appeal - that was 2003. When I mentioned to him that I used to be a member in Sweden, the day after I was contacted by Simon Stokes. I think raising money for charities and helping the less well off in society is very close to all our hearts. If we also have a very nice social friendly club spirit when doing it - that’s Lions for me.

"I joined Lions in Lions year 2006/2007 and have never looked back. I joined out of, firstly, curiosity and, secondly, it was an opportunity to give something back to communities. The ethos and goals of Lions resonated strongly with me. This was verified for me when I realised that members actually pay a fee to cover insurance and administration costs themselves! The moments of joy, gratitude, thanks, humbleness, camaraderie and most of all fun that I have had has been immeasurable. I would encourage anyone to become a member of a Lions club."

Having been involved with the Cork Lions Club over a period of years we have been fortunate enough to have experienced first-hand their unique model of local giving. What is unique about being the recipients of the good work of the Lions Club is that you are not made to feel that you are in receipt of charity. Rather as an organisation you are made to feel that your work is both valued and valuable. The support and friendship offered to the Cork Life Centre by the Cork Lions Club has been a high point of our work in recent years and the relationship we have developed is one that we truly cherish.

The work of NCBI - Working for People with Sight Loss - is only part funded by the HSE. To have the support of The Cork Lions Club and to receive a substantial donation as a result of the work they do is fantastic. Without the support of groups like The Cork Lions Club I know that organisations like NCBI would struggle to do the work they do.
Membership of the club has presented me with many challenges and many memorable and enjoyable experiences over the years all accompanied by a sense that whatever I was doing on behalf of the club was of benefit to the community. It also introduced me to many like-minded people both from the Cork club and further afield with some of these leading to enduring friendships.
I’ve got great enjoyment and satisfaction in being a member of the Club and participating in all activities of the Club - both in the projects undertaken and in the social element of the Club. I have made many friends in the Club and also in the Communities we helped. It has been a great privilege to make a contribution to my adopted city through Cork Lions Club.
